We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer (m/f/x) to join our growing team! Unwired Networks develops and operates a large network of public WiFi access points in skiing areas, trains and for tourism within Europe. You will develop the software stack behind thousands of cloud-managed WiFi access points and routers.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer (m/f/x) to join our growing team!

Unwired Networks develops and operates a large network of public WiFi access points in skiing areas, trains and for tourism within Europe.

You will develop the software stack behind thousands of cloud-managed WiFi access points and routers. Your daily development tasks will include:

  • Backend development with bleeding edge technologies
  • Working within a cloud deployment (kubernetes on Google Cloud)
  • Get in touch with various technologies

As a team we are responsible for developing the cloud stack, user-facing websites and tools for the company’s WiFi deployment.

You do not have to match all the listed requirements exactly in order to apply. We are also looking for experienced developers from different areas interested in contributing their experience to our team.

What you will do:

  • Develop complex mixed-technology tech-stacks (golang/python/nodejs, GraphQL, Kubernetes/Docker)
  • Development of web- and micro-services with APIs for our frontend and external services
  • Write and run tests routinely
  • Ship new features regularly
  • Join the company’s future product decision making process
  • Work with a range of bleeding-edge technologies

What we expect from a Senior Developer:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in software engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years software engineering experience
  • Interested in new technologies
  • Bonus qualifications:
    • Completed past projects with any one of: golang, nodejs/Apollo, Python, BigQuery
    • Knowledge in related disciplines such as networks and devops
    • Experience with various cloud services and specifically Kubernetes

Unwired offers a full-time (38.5h) position. The employment conforms to the rules under task group ST2 in the Austrian IT collective bargaining agreement. Unwired offers competitive compensation, and especially overpayment on top of ST2’s minimum salary, depending on previous work experience. An estimated salary range for this position is between 52k and 63k EUR per year.

Senior Linux System Developer (f/m/x)

We are looking for a Linux System Developer to join our growing team of developers.

Unwired Networks develops and operates a hotspot management system in Austria, Germany and Switzerland with several thousand hotspots. The main fields of application are public transport as well as outdoor WiFi installations in tourist regions and ski resorts.

You will develop the software that runs thousands of our centrally managed hotspots and routers.

Your daily tasks:

  • Releasing new versions of OpenWRT-based Linux firmware
  • Focusing on network-oriented features (e.g. multi-uplink load balancing) and operative streamlining (self-healing, monitoring), right at the center of an ecosystem with many open source projects
  • Deploying LXC containers with complex network stacks in hotspot and router hardware
  • Integration into a large cloud deployment (Kubernetes with Google Cloud)
  • Getting in touch with many different technologies

As a team we are responsible for the development of new cloud stacks, customer-oriented websites and the tools required for the company’s use of WiFi.

What you will do:

  • Join our team and develop new networking features for our firmware
  • Integrate new firmware features into our centralized cloud management
  • Improve the operative simplicity of our cloud solution (enhanced tests, monitoring/metrics)
  • Write and run tests regularly
  • Ship new features regularly
  • Participate in the company’s product decision-making process
  • Work with a variety of modern technologies

What we expect from a Senior Developer:

  • Experience in C and system-level shell development
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in software development or equivalent
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant working experience
  • Interest in new technologies and developments
  • Bonus qualifications:
    • Interest in Linux
    • Completed projects in one of these areas: OpenWRT, open source, Linux networking
    • Know-how in related topics such as drivers, embedded or system development
    • Experience with various cloud and CI/CD services

Systems & Network Engineer (f/m/x)

We are looking for a new technical colleague for our projects with well-known customers in Austria and internationally. As part of our Delivery team you are responsible for the technical implementation of international on-board network projects in the rail and bus industries. You have several years of know-how in Linux or network environments and already some experience in customer support. Recurring tasks are boring you to such a degree that you simply script them. You are highly familiar with APIs and web applications. If something should go wrong, you take a larger view and find a solution.

Your mission:

  • Implementing distributed networks in vehicles (rail and bus) and stationary settings
  • Building mobile edge computing applications for our customers
  • Technical planning and implementation of networks (routing, switching, WiFi, VPN, cellular networks)
  • Configuring Unwired Cloud systems (network configuration, passenger WiFi portal) and third-party systems
  • Communication with technical contact persons of customers during planning and implementation

What we expect:

  • Solid technical understanding of network technology (Linux network stack, WiFi, switching, routing, automation, container virtualization)
  • Experience in customer support and product implementation
  • Confident team player with excellent communication skills
  • Very good German (min. level C2) and good English writing and speaking skills

Managing and implementing customer projects in the Unwired Delivery team:

  • Managing the project portfolio (dividing projects into tasks and assigning resources)
  • Operative project responsibility (project management and documentation, mainly in the area of transport operations, from requirements analysis and technical design up until acceptance)
  • Implementing customer requirements on the basis of standard product features, quality assurance and acceptance
  • Order processing (checking & placing orders with suppliers, delivery logistics, inventory)
