AKN & Kontron
The implementation of reliable passenger Wi-Fi in 14 Alstom Lint54 trains of AKN proved to be a technically demanding challenge. Due to existing contracts, the Wi-Fi had to be provided through Deutsche Telekom’s “Hotspot as a Service.”
Together with Kontron Transportation, Unwired Networks was able to meet these requirements using container virtualization, while also enabling efficient network management.
Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn
Unwired Networks has been responsible for the public Internet connection of the Spree-Neisse network of Ostdeutsche Eisenbahn (ODEG) since 2018.
In collaboration with Netmodule and Antonics, Unwired Networks delivered certified and preconfigured routers, access points as well as indoor and outdoor antennae for nine Stadler Regio-Shuttles.
Abellio DISA
Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland operates the diesel-powered Saxony-Anhalt network (DISA) with around 54 Alstom Coradia LINT train sets. The vehicles were to be equipped with high-performance passenger Wi-Fi and an information portal to provide the highest level of comfort.

ÖBB Postbus GmbH
Austria’s largest bus company ÖBB Postbus GmbH operates the majority of the country’s interurban bus network. Starting in December 2018, approximately 500 buses were equipped with fast Internet access. Together with the advantage of faster WiFi for passengers, the IT department of ÖBB Postbus also benefits from a considerable gain in comfort as it can now easily roll out additional networks for cameras and ticket vending machines. Ski Amadé
Unwired Networks connects 860 kilometers of skiing slopes, 260 lodges and mountain restaurants, 270 lifts, 25 towns and villages as well as five regions.
With more than 300 WiFi hotspots at lifts and lodges, the skiing regions Salzburger Sportwelt, Schladming-Dachstein, Gastein, Hochkönig and Großarltal offer their visitors an optimum of reception.
Each device equipped with WiFi – whether it is a smartphone, an iPhone or an iPad – can be used for free surfing within a range of 50 meters via one of 300 access points in five skiing regions.
Municipality of Kremsmünster
Within the framework of the funding program “Wifi4EU”, the municipality of Kremsmünster implemented free Internet access in public places for residents, visitors and tourists.
A total of 17 outdoor and 5 indoor hotspots were installed to achieve wide WiFi coverage. In addition to the free WiFi, a password-protected WiFi was set up for the employees of the municipality. With content filters and the assumption of liability by Unwired, the tailor-made WiFi is 100% legally certain and GDPR-compliant.
