This position is ideal for an expert in Kubernetes who has a proven track record of creating and maintaining complex cluster setups and who is used to diving into Golang code to diagnose & fix various issues and to develop new solutions.
You will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team to deliver cutting-edge solutions for the public transport industry.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and Enhance Cloud Services: Design and implement new features and improvements for our cloud services within a Kubernetes-based environment.
- Kubernetes Expertise: Architect, deploy, and maintain Kubernetes infrastructure, this includes for example developing custom Kubernetes operators using Golang.
- Automation and Tooling: Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using GitOps principles to ensure rapid and reliable deployments.
- Incident Management: Lead incident response efforts, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures to ensure service reliability.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with software engineering, DevOps, and firmware teams to develop solutions across the full stack, including cloud backends, APIs, and containerized services.
- Monitoring and Observability: Design and implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using modern observability tools.
- Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance within the team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Your Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Extensive Kubernetes Experience: Deep expertise in Kubernetes, including hands-on experience with GKE, EKS, or similar managed Kubernetes services.
- Golang Programming: Proficient in Golang, with demonstrated experience developing production-grade software, such as Kubernetes operators or other cloud-native tools.
- Cloud Proficiency: Prior experience with cloud hyperscalers such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure.
- Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with tools like Terraform, Helm, and related automation frameworks.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Expertise in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitOps methodologies.
- Incident Response: Proven experience in incident management and implementing preventative measures to ensure reliability.
Preferred
- Software Development Background: Strong understanding of software engineering principles, with relevant prior experience.
- Observability Tools: Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, or similar monitoring and alerting platforms.
- Security Practices: Knowledge of best practices for securing cloud and containerized environments.
- Cross-functional Skills: Familiarity with technologies like React, GraphQL and OpenWRT is a plus.

Your Team
You will report directly to the Head of Engineering and will play a critical role in driving the reliability and scalability of our services.
This job role is primarily located in Vienna, Austria and we consider relocations within the EU. The job language is primarily English – German is an advantage.
This role can be based in our office in the central district of Vienna or performed remotely within reasonable limits.
Unwired offers a full-time position (38.5 hours/week) for this job. The employment is based on the Austrian IT collective bargaining agreement with a minimum monthly salary of € 5,000.00 gross. The salary as well as a potential overpayment depend on your qualification and professional experience.
